Not quite completed at the time of the author’s passing, his text was revised and enlarged by Isidore Goldstick. Recorded in this text as the Bill of Rights of the Jews of Canada, this legislation was passed the legislature of what was then “Lower Canada” in 1831, receiving royal assent in the following year. The seeds of political equality were sewn, and its history herein recorded. In the decade following this centennial, released records of the federal cabinet discussing the number of Jews Canada should accept following WWII included the comment “None is too many”. The work for true equality was not yet finished. That phrase became the title of a work by Abella, published in 1982, that carries this history forward.
