McGovern (1897 – 1964) gained world-wide renown after the publication of “To Lhasa in Disguise’. Trained as an anthropologist as well as other studies including Buddhism, he had a keen eye for story without losing detailed observations. Apart from his description of Incan ruins, his chapters “Into Hostile Territory” and “Cannibalistic Orgies” are especially engrossing.
