Philadelphia: Executive Board of the Women's National Indian Association, 1888. Small Octavo. Stapled Wrappers. Very Good - 41 pp. Rusted staples, not affecting text or integrity of the binding, though especially visible on the early and later pages. On value in historical perspective, and evidencing two significant characteristics as enunciated in the Objectives of the Association: "To aid by every means for securing all laws needed by the Indians of the United States" and, secondly, "To send and support suitable missionaries and instructors to reside among Indians, to labor for their help industrially, politically, educationally, morally and religiously." Thus the Report on Indian Legislation (pp. 18 ff.) notes that there were 25 statutes of note that year: 12 for grants to railways "across Indian lands", with "only one of the other thirteen . . . clearly for any large present help to Indians." A list of the Officers of the Association for the coming year, on the other hand, doesn't reflect a single India presence, and the Advisory Board lists, inter alia, four Generals and nine Reverends. Uncommon.
